Coconut oil is divided into virgin coconut oil and refined coconut oil according to its processing methods and the quality of the coconut used.
The raw material used in virgin coconut oil is the coconut meat of fresh coconut. High-quality coconuts are selected from a specific coconut tree species - the original coconut tree, rather than the hybrid coconut tree developed by modern science. At the same time, the coconut itself must not be contaminated or of poor quality in any way. No high temperature is used in the processing process, and absolutely no chemical solvents are used to maintain the natural flavor and avoid nutrient loss as much as possible. As a result, the finished virgin coconut oil will retain a light coconut aroma. Moreover, coconut oil is the use of white coconut meat through the hydraulic oil press machine pressed out, high-quality coconut oil in the liquid, is transparent colorless; When it's frozen, it should be as white as snow. This coconut oil is also generally the most nutritious and healthiest virgin coconut oil.
Refined coconut oil, as the name suggests, is highly processed. It's refined at a high temperature, then it's bleached and flavored. Also, unlike virgin coconut oil, refined coconut oil uses dried whole coconut, called COPRA, which means "dried coconut meat." The quality of coconut used in refining coconut oil can be high or low, new coconut, old coconut, residual coconut, etc. Before processing, the coconut is cracked open and the flesh is dried in the sun or in a high temperature oven. Coconuts that have been exposed to the sun are often left on the ground to dry for days or longer before they are processed. As you can imagine, this desiccated coconut meat can contain a lot of bacteria and mold. However, when it is processed, the coconut oil is sterilized. In some cases, chemical solvents are used to maximize oil yield and remove contaminants from the oil. The oil processed in this way is colorless and odorless.
Refined coconut oil is classified into different grades according to the degree of processing. The finest refined coconut oil,Colorless and odorless; The second grade refined coconut oil is yellowish and has a slight odor. The lowest coconut oil, the oil color is deep yellow, very strong flavor, but the flavor is not the same as the virgin coconut oil, coconut smell, even a little bit of chemical solvent smell. The lowest form of refined coconut oil is often used as a skin care ingredient in soaps and cosmetics, and is sometimes sold as vegetable oil. This oil is harmless and edible, but tastes worse than other grades of coconut oil.
