Depending on the rice variety, cultivation procedures and technology employed, approximately 40% of the total grain volume is lost as a by-product during the milling process. The by-products produced through the various milling steps are chaff, bran, germ and broken rice, which are often discarded or used as animal feed. Bran is the most attractive of these by-products because, although it makes up only 9% of the weight of the rice, it contains about 65% of the nutrients of the entire rice grain. One of the most common uses of rice bran is to extract rice bran oil (RBO) . It is extracted from the hard outer layer of rice grains, called chaff or chaff, using a cold-pressing technique.
This technique involves compressing the rice bran under gentle heating (<50°C) using a mechanical press, then filtering the resulting oil to produce refined functional oils. Therefore, a hydraulic oil press can be used to press the rice bran to obtain the oil contained within.Rice bran oil is known for its high smoke point, which means it can be used as a cooking oil for frying foods. It has a pleasant flavor, making it an ideal salad oil.
Moreover, it contains high vitamin E content and is suitable for use in the cosmetics industry to help improve skin health.
Although screw presses offer higher production throughput, hydraulic presses have their own unique advantages:
