Due to the high content of unsaponifiable matter in shea butter and the advantages of safety and non-toxicity, shea butter is often used as one of the important raw materials for female skin care products.
Shea butter is a kind of woody oil plant unique to Africa. Shea butter takes at least 15 years to grow from seed germination to flowering and bearing fruit. The fruits produced by shea butter can obtain 25 pounds of dry seed per 100 pounds, and about 5 pounds of shea butter can be processed.
Shea butter processing technology
The harvested shea fruit is washed and sorted to obtain fruit of good quality. The pulp is removed from the shea fruit to obtain the core, the seed. Use a sheller to remove the shell from the cleaned shea nut seeds and obtain the seed kernel. Shea butter is obtained by crushing and frying the seeds and pressing them with an oil press. The residue left after the oil is pressed can be used as fodder. The refined shea butter was obtained by refining, decolorizing and degumming the pressed shea butter.
Shea butter obtained by different processing processes is also different in quality, shea butter is currently divided into five grades in the market, Class A (unrefined shea butter), Class B (refined shea butter), Class C (highly refined shea butter), Class D (lowest level of non-contaminated shea butter), Class E (shea butter containing pollutants).
