Cottonseed oil is a commonly used vegetable oil that's derived from the seeds of cotton plants. A whole cotton seed contains about 15-20% oil. The manufacture of salad and cooking oils, shortenings and margarine comprise almost the entire market for cottonseed oil. Then, how shall we producet it?

1.Cottonseed is cleaned by screening method.

  1. Use a cottonseed delinting machine to mechanically remove the linter fibers.
  2. The hulls are removed by threshers or seed dehullers to improve the protein quality of the meal produced and to preventthe hulls from absorbing oil.
  3. The cottonseed seeds that have been screened and shelled are properly heated, which is conducive to decomposing the cellwall, allowing the oil to escape, reducing the oil viscosity, and thus increasing the oil output again.
  4. Screw press method.
  5. Filtration and refining of crude oil
  6. To be used as a human food source, cottonseed oil must be refined to remove impurities to ensure desirable flavor, colorand stability characteristics. Before it is marketed as salad oil, the process of dewaxing is necessary to remove cloudinesscaused by stearic acid.
